MS. WENTWORTH
(Voice, Piano, & Acting)
Ms. Wentworth received a full scholarship from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA to study piano, and graduated with dual degrees in piano and vocal performance. She has been a vocal instructor at the Duquesne University young artists program, and at the Thomas Studio of Voice, both in Pittsburgh. Ms. Wentworth has also maintained successful private studios in piano and vocal instruction in Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Oregon for over 30 years. Ms. Wentworth provides instruction in beginning and intermediate piano, vocal performance, stage acting, and preparation and coaching of vocal repertoire for beginning, pre-college and pre-professional vocal students. Several of Ms. Wentworth’s students have gone on to study classical voice and graduate from prestigious music schools, notably Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Indiana, Bloomington.
"One my great passions, along with performing, is to work with young piano and voice students. The feeling of ‘giving back’ to young, aspiring musicians (whether beginners, or experienced) is very satisfying, and (hopefully) provides some guidance in their early development as musicians, and more broadly as young men and women."
In addition to her musical teaching career, Ms. Wentworth has sung a broad range of principal operatic and oratorio roles, premiers of original compositions, and recordings throughout her professional career. Most recently, Ms. Wentworth originated the principal role of Camino Woman in the world premiere of Via Lactea with Opera Bend in Oregon.
Ms. Wentworth’s operatic credits include performances with Eve Queler's Opera Orchestra of New York as Henrichetta in I Puritani, and with the Spoleto Festival USA in Der Prinz von Homburg. She has sung multiple seasons with the Dayton Opera, including the role of Mercedes in Carmen, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, and La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi. She has also performed with Michigan Opera Theatre as Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor with Ruth Ann Swenson, and as the Abbess in King Roger. Ms. Wentworth has performed with Pacific Symphony as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah, the Dayton Philharmonic, singing the role of Carmen, the Johnstown Symphony as Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, and with the Plum Creek Orchestra in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella. She has also sung a variety of roles with the Santa Fe, Sarasota and Pittsburgh Opera Companies. Ms. Wentworth’s vocal repertoire spans the globe in terms of language, including Italian, French, German, Spanish, Polish, and English.
In addition to her operatic repertoire, Ms. Wentworth’s oratorio performances include recordings of Haydn’s CREATION, singing the role of EVE with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the mezzo-soprano soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C minor, and the Durufle´ Requiem with the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. Other performances include Handel’s Messiah with the Johnstown Symphony, the Requiems of Mozart and Faure´, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Beethoven’s Mass in C, and the Pergolesi Stabat Mater.
Ms. Wentworth can be heard on the recording of Clepsydra, an operatic installation by Venezuelan composer and conductor Efrain Amaya. She was featured in the premier performance of the work in Pittsburgh under the baton of Maestro Amaya. Ms. Wentworth has also recorded a series of original compositions for voice and piano by Efrain Amaya. Additionally, Ms. Wentworth was selected as the featured vocalist for the “9-11” commemorative performance of the Johnstown Symphony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, broadcast around the world, on the first anniversary of the events of that day.
Ms. Wentworth has won numerous vocal awards, including the Liederkranz Vocal Competition, finalist in the Gerda Lissner Foundation Vocal Competition, and finalist in the Solo Competition for the Oratorio Society of New York. Other awards include selection as a Metropolitan Opera National Finalist and a Finalist for the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Ms. Wentworth has provided acting coaching for students in both musical and non-musical settings. An accomplished actress both on the operatic stage, and in film and commercials, Ms. Wentworth has supported her students in their pursuit of operatic and musical theatre roles, as well as industrial videos, television, and commercial/promotional opportunities.
